Colonel Rex Applegate, with over 40 years of knife design experience, is legendary in the world of hand-to-hand combat. The Applegate-Fairbairn family of knives rank as lasting symbols of the Colonel's dedication, expertise, and sense of purpose, earning international status as best-of-class amongst folding tactical knives.
Based on the classic Applegate-Fairbairn fixed knife, the Covert is a 3/4 scale, pocket clip version of the Gerber original Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder. The Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert knife, like all of our military knives and tools, is built in Portland, Oregon, USA.
A totally relevant knife for today's deployed military, the Covert folder's powerful design is highly adaptive for storage due to its being a folding knife, while the blade, when extended, provides the same strength as a fixed blade knife.
The patented blade lock lever, a secondary manual locking system, can be flipped into place with the thumb as it presses into the hilt of the handle, and prevents the open blade from closing on the hand of the operator for absolute confidence in its use.
With a 3 3/4 inch double bevel partially serrated blade made of 154 CM stainless steel, the Covert folder is an elegant close-quarter conflict knife. Dual thumb studs are present for easy one-hand opening of the blade, its face etched with the Applegate and Fairbairn signatures.
Featuring a patented secondary blade locking system, a grooved glass-filled nylon handle, and a stainless pocket clip, the Applegate-Fairbairn Covert folding knife looks and feels as impressive and beautifully balanced as its name suggests

In 1939 Joseph Gerber hired a local knife maker to build 25 sets of kitchen cutlery to be given as Christmas gifts. The knives were so popular that Joseph Gerber left his advertising agency to start Gerber Legendary Blades®. The unique style and high quality manufacturing of Gerber cutlery soon developed wide spread acclaim. In fact, Gerber Legendary Blades are the only cutlery on display in New York?s famous Museum of Modern Art.
From very early on, Gerber collaborated with top knife designers, setting a standard of quality for everyone else to follow. Renowned designers such as Al Mar, Bob Loveless, Paul Poehlmann, 'Blackie' Collins, William Harsey Jr. and Ernest Emerson have all designed knives for Gerber. In 2002 this tradition continued as Gerber released the Silver Trident?, designed by Chief James 'Patches' Watson (U.S.N. Ret.) and Bill Harsey Jr.
Today, Gerber continues to design and manufacture unique, high quality outdoor recreation products. In 2003 we are proud to introduce the next generation of multi-tools: the Recoil? Auto-Plier. By constantly utilizing new technology and innovative design to develop new products, Gerber continues to be an industry leader.
