The Spyderco Native Chief Lightweight combines the proven Native family design with a larger blade and lightweight construction. This version features Spyderco's proprietary CPM SPY27 stainless steel and a distinctive cobalt-blue FRN handle, creating a premium American-made folder with an impressive balance of cutting performance and carry comfort.
The 4.02-inch blade is crafted from CPM SPY27, a cobalt-enriched stainless steel developed by Spyderco in cooperation with Crucible Industries. SPY27 builds on the chemistry of VG-10 while using Crucible's Particle Metallurgy process to create a fine, homogeneous microstructure. The result is a blade steel designed to balance edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and the ability to take an exceptionally sharp edge.
The blade features a full-flat grind, providing an efficient cutting profile, and the 3.52-inch edge offers substantial usable cutting length. At 0.125 inches thick, the blade provides a solid balance between cutting efficiency and strength.
The cobalt-blue FRN handle keeps the Native Chief Lightweight remarkably light at just 3.1 ounces while Spyderco's molded texture provides a secure grip. A back lock provides dependable blade retention, while the four-position pocket clip allows ambidextrous tip-up or tip-down carry.

We also repeatedly test for stress, wear, optimal heat-treating and actively search for higher quality, performance enhancing steels and materials.
