The Spyderco Sage 5 C123GBORP combines one of Spyderco's most popular EDC platforms with the extraordinary cutting performance of CPM REX 121. This premium version features a distinctive burnt orange G-10 handle and a satin-finished, full-flat-ground REX 121 blade.
CPM REX 121 is an exceptionally wear-resistant tool steel engineered for extreme edge retention. Spyderco developed this Sage 5 specifically to showcase the steel's remarkable properties while retaining the proven ergonomics and functionality of the Sage 5 platform.
The 3.00-inch leaf-shaped blade is paired with a high-strength Compression Lock, nested skeletonized stainless steel liners, and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip. The peel-ply-textured G-10 scales provide a secure grip and give this version a distinctly premium feel.

Our Take: The Sage 5 is already an excellent EDC platform, but CPM REX 121 makes this version something special. REX 121 is all about extreme wear resistance and edge retention, and Spyderco paired it with the Sage 5's excellent ergonomics and Compression Lock rather than creating a purely specialized design.
The burnt orange G-10 also sets this version apart from the standard Sage 5. If you're looking for a Sage 5 that combines premium steel, premium handle material, and serious collector appeal, the C123GBORP is one of the standout versions.

Making knives that consistently deliver reliable high-performance requires an ongoing commitment to testing. In our million-dollar testing facility we examine edge retention with a CATRA machine, look for rust development with Q-FOG, check the force needed to open and close a knife. We also repeatedly test for stress, wear, optimal heat-treating and actively search for higher quality, performance enhancing steels and materials.
