When the work day begins, it's Carter Prime time.
This workhorse folder is a collaboration between Ontario Knife Company and knife designer Robert Carter -- the grandson of Mel Pardue and the son of Joe Pardue. But instead of relying on the reputation of his ancestors, Carter has forged his own path with functional designs.
The Carter Prime is the perfect example.
Based on his Generalist custom design, the Carter Prime is an overbuilt flipper with a thick cut 3.37-inch blade made from tough D2 tool steel.
The stonewash-finished blade opens quickly and smoothly via the flipper mechanism. Although the blade shape may look funny, the modified sheepsfoot blade is versatile and functional. It stays engaged with a frame lock that can take all the abuse you can dole out.
The lightweight anodized titanium handle is streamlined with some jimping near the butt and along the spine to keep it in hand.
Rounding out this versatile folder is a tip-up sculpted pocket clip for easy everyday carry.
