A proud member of Spyderco's Salt Series of ultra-corrosion-resistant knives, the Spydiechef takes the user friendly ergonomics of a good chef's knife and translates them into a do-all folder optimized for everyday carry. Based on knife maker Marcin Slysz custom design, it features a gracefully curved, full-flat-ground blade crafted from LC200 N - an extremely corrosion-resistant nitrogen-based steel used by NASA for ball bearings. Its easily cleaned, open-backed handle consists of two solid titanium scales, one of which houses a stout Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism. A lined lanyard hole and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip support convenient carry and quick tip-up access.
To reduce weight, optimize balance, and simplify cleaning, the Spydiechef features an open-backed handle constructed with two precision-machined solid titanium scales. The reverse-side scale houses a stout Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism that locks the blade firmly open when in use. For additional security when working around water, the handle also includes a lined lanyard hole for easy attachment of safety lines and lanyards and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for convenient, ambidextrous carry and quick tip-up access.
An impressive synthesis of custom-quality craftsmanship and advanced corrosion-resistant materials, the Spydiechef offers extreme cutting performance in a package that is immune to even the harshest environments.
Specialized Blade
The Spydiechef is an extremely versatile cutting tool. It is convenient and compact enough for everyday carry. The most prominent feature of this knife is the full flat ground blade. It is precision machined from LC200N steel and has a graceful curve to the edge.
LC200N is a nitrogen alloyed steel tool, specifically formulated to offer extreme toughness and superior corrosion resistance. The state of the art LC200N (nitrogen-based alloy) is actually used by NASA in demanding aerospace applications.
The profile of the blade and the full flat grind create an efficient cutting edge that will have very low drag when cutting through food and other materials.
Handle and Ergonomics
The open-backed handle is constructed with two (precision-machined) titanium scales. This optimizes balance, reduces weight, and simplifies cleaning.
The subtlety of the handle design becomes apparent when you hold it in your hand. The ergonomic design of the blade and handle offers a cutting advantage in the kitchen, and makes it easy to hold, even for prolonged periods.
The integral lower guard and refined ergonomics of the handle ensures a comfortable and secure grip. The handle gives maximum control when you use this knife.
When stowed in your pocket, the Spydiechef remains comfortable and discreet thanks to its slim handle and deep carry wire clip. The clip is reversible for left or right side carry and matches the matte gray look of the titanium frame.
Lockup and Deployment
The round hole is a classic design that makes the Spydiechef blade easily accessible. Spyderco implemented the Reeve Integral Lock (framelock) on this model which ensures solid lockup without the need for any additional moving parts on the knife.
At the end of the handle, you'll find a lined lanyard hole so you have the option of attaching your favorite fob or lanyard.
The Spyderco Spydiechef knife is excellent. The amazing fusion of custom quality craftsmanship, advanced design, and state of the art materials make it a must-buy. If you are looking for serious cutting performance in your everyday carry as well as in the kitchen, the Spydiechef knife is an ideal choice.

Quick! List the most respected and innovative knife companies you can think of. If you know anything about knives, Spyderco is somewhere near the top. Spyderco Inc. makes some of the most unique and downright bizarre knife designs you'll see on the market, but from the number of passionate fans discussing, debating, and learning everything they can about Spyderco knives, it's clear that the company has done something right.
From the Glesser Family and the Spyderco Crew:
Since starting Spyderco we've been told our knives are different, peculiar, even out there. All true. Thinking beyond established knife industry barriers allowed us to introduce new and radical innovations to the knife culture including: One-hand opening, serrations on a folder and a clip to attach a knife to a pocket.
We didn't go into business to rake in a mountain of dough we're here for more selfish reasons- indulging our passion for creating knives. Spyderco is definitely out of the norm in the knife industry in our dedication to researching and developing fresh, improved and better performing materials all with function and reliability being key.
Someone once said to Sal Glesser, Spyderco's owner, 'You must design in the dark because your knives look so strange.' True again. Our recognizable appearance is a result of designing ergonomic functional tools rather than applying lipstick and nylons to a pocketknife. We may look curious, homely, whatever, but we'll never be called unusable or undependable.
Making knives that consistently deliver reliable high-performance requires an ongoing commitment to testing. In our million-dollar testing facility we examine edge retention with a CATRA machine, look for rust development with Q-FOG, check the force needed to open and close a knife. We also repeatedly test for stress, wear, optimal heat-treating and actively search for higher quality, performance enhancing steels and materials.
As a customer you probably don't think about this, or much care, but it allows us to put forth a promise. When you purchase a Spyderco you are buying a high-quality reliable cutting tool designed and manufactured for peak performance and ergonomic comfort. Those Who Know Carry Spyderco.
